at the 2009 Harmony Classic Competition in Nashville, Tenn. on Oct. 20, 2009.
Region 4 The Scioto Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines International took gold at the Harmony Classic Division AA Competition held on Oct. 20, 2009 in Nashville, Tenn. Sixty-nine of the 79-member chorus performed on stage and wowed the judges and audience with its creative and musical 15-minute entertainment package. The Scioto Valley Chorus of Dublin, Ohio led by its directors, Kerry Denino and Char Gurney, both charter members of the chorus, competed for the fourth time in the Harmony Classic Division AA competition this year. The chorus took home the international gold medal in 2005 and members are again thrilled with the results this year. Since chartering in January 1988, Scioto Valley Chorus has competed in its annual regional competition almost every year. Seven of those years Scioto Valley Chorus won the regional gold in the Division AA competition, which led the chorus to several opportunities of competing on the international stage. The chorus has a diverse membership of women ranging in age from 15 to 80 years old. Members expressed how rewarding it has been being a part of the chorus. Speaking for Scioto Valley, one member explained, "We have flown together and also taken bus trips to compete in Harmony Classic. I think everyone would agree that we created wonderful memories none of us will ever forget." Members of the chorus shared several stories of their chorus experiences, including a special event they were invited to perform for as the Olympic Torch traveled across the country to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. "As we sang God Bless America, the runner turned to us with a huge smile and tears in his eyes. The resulting tears of the chorus and the audience lining the street reaffirmed the tremendous pride we have in this great country of ours." Back to Harmony Classic Champion Chorus Search
